Welcome to my personal bio page. My name is Mike Stark and I have had the privilege of being the principal at Cheney Middle School for 14 years. I still can't believe I get paid to work with kids and learning every day. Being a school principal is the greatest job a person could ever have!
I am a proud 1993 graduate of Central Washington University. I attended CWU for both master BA and masters degree. I began my career as a teacher in 1993 when I accepted a job in my home town of Royal City (tiny little town by Moses Lake) as a middle school math and science teacher. I taught 8th grade science, 8th grade math, 8th grade algebra, and computer science courses during my 10 year teaching career. My family and I moved to Cheney in 2002 and consider Cheney to be our lifetime home. We LOVE it here and our proud to send our own kids to the Cheney Public Schools.
I went into education 25 years ago for the same reasons that I love being a principal today. Working with children "fills my bucket!" There is no better feeling in the world than seeing the lights come on when student learning is happening, to see the natural excitement and exuberance adolescent students have. Being a principal is so great because you have influence over so many different parts of the school experience. You also get to spend lots of times helping students solve problems, both in class and out of class.
Outside of school, my wife and I have two daughters that keep us busy most days! We are a volleyball and basketball family and both of my kids are active in both school sports and club sports. In our spare time, our family loves to take care of our 10 acre property we live on and spend time in the great outdoors. We spend our free time hiking, camping, boating, fishing, and rafting (when we aren't sitting in a gym watching volleyball and basketball).
