About Track & Field PLUS....
We are excited to announce that Cheney Middle School will be offering Track & Field PLUS from May 3rd to June 11th. This will take place immediately after in-person learning beginning at approximately 2:00 PM and run until 4:15 PM. Limited Activity Bus runs will be available at 4:30 PM with more information coming soon. We are asking that if you are able to transport yourself or be transported, please use this option to allow more students who need a ride space on the bus.
Track & Field PLUS will include all track and field events traditionally offered at the middle school as well as some skill specific activities from other sports to potentially include football throw/punt, HS length Cross Country, and others as determined by coaching and student interest.
While we recognize that this is not offering any other sport that students may be interested, we feel this will allow opportunities for students to get involved in after school activities, as well as engage in the social emotional aspects that sports and clubs offer. It is our goal to return to traditional middle school sports offerings next fall, pending approval, and hope that this opportunity will begin to get this underway.
In order to participate in Track & Field PLUS, you must have a current sports physical on file with our Athletic Office as well as complete all required activity packet documents through our Skyward Family Access online forms. We are waiving the ASB fee this year to allow as many students as possible to participate.
One important thing to remember is that all COVID-19 related safety requirements will remain in effect during Track & Field PLUS. This means that coaches will work to distance students to the best of their ability, masks will be required at all times during practice and any competitions that may be scheduled, and there is the possibility that students may be quarantined due to potential exposure should a coach or athlete test positive during the season. There is not a process to be exempt from mask wearing. We will be bringing on additional coaching staff to ensure we can work in smaller groups to protect students and staff.
