CMS Mesa Students Compete in National Engineering Challenge

Four Cheney Middle School students started with a vision to help individuals experiencing homelessness, and they are now getting to share their idea at the MESA National Engineering & Design Challenge.  Students Gracie Day, Daylynn Newbill, Annika Palmer, & Layla Shepard created and coded a prototype called the "Seek Shelter Alert System," which would alert individuals who are experiencing homelessness to get up, get moving, or get to a shelter when temperatures have reached hazardous levels. Their presentation of their prototype won at the regional level in April, took first place at the Washington state competition in May, and allowed them to present at the MESA National Competition June 23-24. Congratulations to these students and the compassion and ingenuity they have displayed!
